When I say I believe in romantic friendships by Arianna Monet

What i mean is this is a lipstick and weighted blanket kind of love

this kind of love is yogurt and oranges.

bright blue 3am smoke Signals.

all the magenta unlonely in

a glass of citrus and grenadine.

this is concentric circle bodies and

soap bubble hearts,

a duet of

synchronized sirens wailing at the stage lights.

sometimes i think the tide

is just the ocean howling at the moon.

some days, i think

so are we.

maybe this

is the most water sign thing about us.

i mean

when a raindrop loves another raindrop

i think they call that a Cloud

or maybe a Rainstorm

maybe just the Sea.

last night

i slept in a Tanglewood shirt that reminds me vaguely of sea glass

and also your hair.

i mean,

let’s talk about matching outfits and strawberry milkshakes

and our favorite kinds of tree.

marvel at the soft miracle of

snowflakes nestled in each other’s hair.

hold hands until the straight people stare and we are no longer freezing.

i mean Could you adjust my overalls?

Can i kiss the top of your head?

i mean i love you so fairy light.

so rose quartz and water cycle.

glitter, tequila, and crystal gem hypothesis.

i love you so aquatic.

so friendship bracelet.

so trampoline.

Arianna Monet (she/her) is a queer Black femme and marigold enthusiast living in Boston, Massachusetts (on Wampanoag land).  She believes strongly in pigtail buns, strawberry milkshakes, and aquarium half-light.  When she is not hiding in a library to work on her next degree, catch her cooing loudly at the nearest puppy, wearing her mother’s wedding ring, and ordering dessert before dinner at every restaurant.
