A Doctor’s Note for L

Please excuse L from life for the next _____ days

L has been experiencing feelings of:

o crushing sadness

o crippling anxiety

o utter defeat

o heart pain

o stomach pain

o the fear that pain will come

o the fear that no pain will ever come again

L requires ____ days in complete isolation in order to

cry, heal a little, cocoon in a blanket watch old sitcoms and eat whatever the hell they want

And practice saying “Yeah, I’m fine” in front of the mirror

until even they are convinced.

Boy Next Door

It’s sad that you demand topless photos

like they’re rent money

When you don’t have an emotional vacancy for the rest of me

You take up residency in my mind

Like you live there

when I’m with you my head is clear,

I want to punch you in the face
